Brief: Fireworks Finale Set to Sway With Steel Pan Rhythms

Fireworks dancing to the sweet sound of a steel orchestra. That’s what should happen this Saturday when N.Y. fireworks experts Grucci’s returns for the fourth consecutive year to produce the finale to Carnival.
The display is set to begin at 9 p.m. in the inner harbor opposite Carnival Village.
“We’re excited to choreograph our fireworks for the first time ever to calypso played by a rich steel orchestra,” said Steve Bornn of Left Lane Productions and Events, local producers for the show.
“The Gruccis were the first to synchronize fireworks to a live symphony. Now, we’ll see how it works to a recorded steelband sound track,” Bornn said in a release issued this week.
Staged from a barge strategically placed between the old pump house and Legislature, the Grucci’s display will light up the harbor for 18 minutes.
According to the release, where you watch the show is going to be important. To fully enjoy the fireworks, the best place is downtown at Carnival Village and its adjacent waterfront area — not from the mountainsides.
A note to boaters: boats normally anchored in the area will be required to relocate from the restricted zone.
