Thursday Results in Youth Hoops League

Three games were played on the D.C. Canegata basketball court Thursday evening in the Housing Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball League, one in the 18 and under (U18) division and two in the 15 and under (U15) division.

Working Together 42, Hoyas 38

In the opening contest played in the U15 division, Working Together edged the Hoyas by a score of 42-38. Mankeel Nicholls led a balanced Working Together attack with 11 points while teammates Joshua Hernandez and Nayibo Gonzalez both dropped in nine points apiece. For the perennial powerhouse Hoyas, Jaheem Lee and Jose Cerrillo shared game-high honors with 12 points apiece in the loss.

Lakers 39, Looking Ahead 27

Game two in the U15 division saw the Lakers, led by Razeem Huggins’ game high 15 points, beat Looking Ahead by 12 at 39-27. Najeem Edwards contributed seven points to the Lakers victory also. Looking Ahead was led by Vion Hazel with 10 points, Reshawn Fredrick with nine and Rashoy Lewis with seven.

Working Together 44, Hoyas 40

The senior U18 teams for Working Together and the Hoyas hooked up in the nightcap, and as was the case in the U15 contest, Working Together won by four points, 44-40. Omari Brooks led another balance offensive attack with a game-high 13 points. He was ably assisted by teammates Najee Williams and Kevin Hughes who finished with 11 and eight points respectively. For the Hoyas, Elijah Brooks had a team-high nine points, while Asha Gage and Horace Mathews both netted eight in the loss.
