Residents Asked to Be ‘Eyes and Ears’ for VIWMA, Report Wastewater Problems

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises residents that emergency repairs to the waste-water collection system in Frederiksted have been completed and the system is back online. Deodorizing and chlorinating previously impacted areas have continued to minimize any residual odors that may be lingering. VIWMA has been working with the Departments of Planning and Natural Resources and Public Works to ensure that the Frederikstedtown is free of contaminants.

The V.I. Waste Management Authority is asking residents to use the authority’s customer service hotline, 713-1962, to report any waste water, solid waste or compliance issues, especially any that may happen over the extended holiday period. The VIWMA’s offices will be closed from noon on Dec. 31 and will re-open at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, but he hotline number will be answered throughout the holiday period. Residents can also report any concerns on the authority’s Web site, www.viwma.org, by clicking on “Report-A-Problem” and completing the required information.
The Customer Services Hotline, 713-1962, is always available for waste water, solid waste and compliance concerns. For more information, contact VIWMA’s Office of Communications Management at 712-4950/4951.
