Police are investigating an auto accident in which a 2-year-old boy was killed Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the boy, whose name has not been released officially, was struck by a car at about 1:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Estate Anna’s Retreat.
The child was taken by ambulance to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Hospital and Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
The Virgin Islands Police Department has not released any other information on the incident. Accordng to Melody Rames, V.I.P.D. public information officer, dozens of people witnessed the incident, which she called "a tragedy," and statements have to be taken from all of them before a report is given.
Additional information on the circumstances surrounding the accident will be released once all witnesses are interviewed and the investigation is concluded, according to the department’s statement.
The accident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Bureau on St. Thomas.
