Male Empowerment Conference to Feature Farrah Gray and Rock City A male empowerment conference – designed to help male high school juniors and seniors and young men who want to return to the academic track realize their potential – will be held at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas on Feb. 8, and on St. Croix on Feb. 10. The conference is organized by UVI and the Virgin Islands Department of Education. The theme is: “Man-Up: Realize your Potential – Tools and Resources for Males on the Journey Towards a Successful Life.” The fundamental message is that there is something very powerful about staying on an academic path and attaining a post-secondary education.
The conference keynote speaker will be American businessman and motivational speaker Farrah Gray, a self-made millionaire by the age of 14. The internationally recognized R&B singing, rapping and songwriting duo known as Rock City (V.I. natives and brothers Timothy and Theron Thomas) is slated to perform. Purchasing to Seek Bids on Used Vehicles for Sale on St. Thomas Campus The University of the Virgin Islands will accept sealed bids on six used vehicles for sale on the St. Thomas campus from Jan. 24, through 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3. Bid forms are available from the UVI Purchasing Department (Room 231 of the Administration and Conference Center) from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Mondays through Fridays – from Jan. 24 through Jan. 31. Michael Bolton to Perform at Reichhold Center on Jan. 29 Michael Bolton, one of the music industry’s most successful and accomplished artists, will perform at UVI’s Reichhold Center for the Arts on Saturday, Jan. 29. The show begins at 8 p.m. He has sold more than 53 million albums and singles worldwide. Along with selections from his many classics – “Soul Provider,” “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” and “Love Is A Wonderful Thing” – he will perform music from his most recent album, “One World One Love,” in which he collaborates with some of today’s hottest acts, including Lady GaGa, R&B singer Ne-Yo and Jamaican sensation Tami Chynn. Free VIUCEDD Workshops for Siblings/Care Takers of Disabled Set for Feb. 7 and 9 Workshops for the siblings, family members, caretakers and service providers of persons with developmental and mental health disabilities will be offered at UVI on St. Thomas on Monday, Feb. 7, and on Wednesday, Feb. 9, on St. Croix. The workshops are hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands-Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD).Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The St. Thomas workshop will take place in UVI’s Administration and Conference Center. On St. Croix the workshop will be held in the Great Hall, located in the North West Wing Building.
The workshops will address the specific concerns and the unique needs of siblings and family members. Continuing support and future care planning will also be covered.The workshops are free, and breakfast and lunch are included.
