The Dodgers scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning, erasing a one-run deficit and take the lead for good against the Reds Saturday afternoon in Elmo Plaskett Little League action at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

The Dodgers used three pitchers to get the victory. Marcelino Rivera got the start and went two innings, then was relieved by Makonner Miller who went two and two-thirds before getting into trouble. Aldermar Santos came on and got the final out on a strike-out for the save.

The Dodgers drew first blood in the top of the first on a passed ball. The Reds tied the game in the bottom of the second on Jahmonie Morton’s RBI double.

The Reds took the lead in the bottom of the third, picking up an unearned run on a wild pitch to lead 2-1 after three completed innings.

That lead was short lived, however, as the Dodgers plated three runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good. They scored three runs on Diante Brooks’ two-run double and Harold Brown’s RBI ground out to take a 4-2 lead. The Dodgers then had to depend on their bullpen to preserve the lead as they failed to score again in the contest.

The Reds got one run back in the bottom of the inning on a fielder’s choice to draw to within one at 4-3, but got no closer.

After the Dodgers failed to score in the top of the fifth and final inning, their middle reliever, Miller, got the first two outs in the bottom of the inning before giving up a sharp single up the middle to the Reds’ Morton. With the heart of the Reds line coming to the plate, coach Malcolm McGregor brought on Santos, who struck out the only batter he faced for the final out.

Miller got the victory in relief for the Dodgers, with Santos picking up the save. Luis Viera, struck out eight Dodgers but still got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Miller (1 of 3) and Brooks (1 of 1 with two RBIs). For the Reds it was Morton (2 of 2 with an RBI.)
