Arts Alive Presents The Kennedys, Award-Winning Husband and Wife Duo

The Kennedys’ eclectic style comes at 8 p.m. to Tillett Gardens on March 23. Their upbeat and fun style is also poignant and soul stirring via acoustic guitars that hint at other genres while never straying far from folk-pop territory. This is not surprising, given their rich and varied musical backgrounds. Maura’s experience ranges from classical to punk while Pete has a musical résumé
that might surprise a few fans. “I’ve done all sorts of different, slightly weird things in music,” he said. Working as a freelance guitarist, he played in the orchestra pit for shows like “Cats” and “Evita” as well as backing up funnyman Bob Hope.
The Kennedys, a D.C.-area, husband-and-wife folk-pop team have been tearing up the scene since their 1995 debut, the Celtic-tinged CD entitled “River of Fallen Stars” (Green Linnet). The jangly guitars, tight
harmonies, positive energy, and smart lyrics found on that album and its all-star follow-up, 1996’s “Life Is Large,” garnered the couple many awards, including more than 30 Wammies (Washington Area Music Awards) and a National Association of Independent Record Distributors Indie Award for best contemporary adult album for River.

Tickets are $30; reservations are recommended. This season, concertgoers will have the opportunity to order dinner directly from Jack’s Restaurant menu. Tickets are available at Tillett Gardens at the Arts Alive office, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information or to make reservations, call 776-8566 or e-mail [email protected].
Arts Alive is administered by the Tillett Foundation, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) arts organization. Its mission is to present quality visual and performing arts in the Virgin Islands and to involve and encourage young people in the appreciation, study, performance, and exhibition of fine music and visual arts. This concert is sponsored in part by a grant from the V.I. Council on the Arts.
