Territorial Schools Sought for Participation in March Music Series

0
Public, private and parochial schools across the territory are being sought for participation in the 2011 March Music Series. The Virgin Islands Cultural Heritage Institute (VICHI) in collaboration with the V.I. Department of Education’s Division of Cultural Education and the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts (VICA) will host the territory’s FifthAnnual March Music Series, titled “The Sounds of Music.” This event is being held in tandem with the celebrations of V.I. History Month and the national observance of Music in Our Schools Month. Throughout the month, concerts will be held on each island, showcasing the musical talents of public, private and parochial school students and honoring local musicians and culture bearers.
“Correspondence is being transmitted to all schools and follow-ups will begin shortly,” said Education Public Relations Director Juel Anderson. “We are asking principals and headmasters who have not received the notification, but who are, indeed, interested in participating in this year’s series, to please contact the Cultural Education Offices in their respective district at 774-0100, ext.2804, 2806 and 2809 on St. Thomas or 718-3645, ext. 1 or 3 on St. Croix. We have opened the series this year to include dance, and we are excited by the prospects of what our schools have to offer.”
