Estate Campo Rico Man Shot to Death After Nightclub Fight

Leroy Brooks, a 29-year-old man from Estate Campo Rico, was shot and killed at 4 a.m. Saturday following an altercation at the Frontline Night Club in Estate Glynn. Another man was injured by gunfire and was treated at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center.

It was the ninth homicide in the territory since the first of the year, the fifth on St. Croix.

Initial police reports indicated that several people called the 911 Emergency Communications Center to report shots fired. When police and emergency medical technicians arrived they found Brooks unresponsive, lying on the public road. Brooks had several gunshot wounds to his body.

Criminal Investigation and Major Crime detectives from St. Croix are investigating. Police said the victim also was run over by a vehicle driven by a person who was attempting to flee the scene, though they not believe the driver of the vehicle was involved in the shooting.

The police said it is possible the two victims were shooting at each other, causing one’s death and wounding the other.

Police located one weapon in nearby bushes, and a second firearm was found near the body of the deceased. The firearms will undergo ballistic and DNA testing in the VIPD forensic laboratory. St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell commended the officers and forensic technicians for recovering the weapons as well as other evidence which he expected will inevitably bring this case to a successful conclusion.

Howell urges anyone who knows anything about the shooting to call his office at 712-6043, the Criminal Investigation or Major Crimes Bureau at 712-6077, 712-6037 or 712-6075, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
