Enterprise Zone Commission Hosts Estate Planning Conferences

0

The Enterprise Zone Commission (EZC) will host another series of estate planning conferences. The residents of Christiansted, Frederiksted, Savanne and the general public are invited to an Estate Planning Conference on Wednesday, March 23, at Gertrude’s Restaurant on St. Croix and on Wednesday, March 30, at Windward Passage Hotel on St. Thomas. Both conferences will be held from 6-8:30 p.m., according to a press release from the V.I. Economic Development Agency (VIEDA).
The EZC invites residents and other interested persons to become informed about estate planning, including when to do a trust or will and how to eliminate the uncertainties surrounding the probate process. Attendees will also learn the importance of taking action on their estate.
Pre-registration is encouraged due to limited seating. More specific information will be offered through breakout sessions on these topics: (1) What happens to my property if I don’t have a will or a trust? (2) I have a will, but what’s a trust? (3) One of the owners of the building is dead, and there is no will. What should I do? (4) There is a will. How do I avoid a lengthy probate?
The Enterprise Zone Commission is one of five entities under the V.I. Economic Development Authority. It was created by V.I. legislation in 1999 to provide incentives and tax credits for individuals to do business and create jobs for residents in three designated enterprise zones: Savanne on St. Thomas, and Christiansted and Frederiksted on St. Croix. This program helps to revitalize the economy and the physical appearance of blighted and severely distressed areas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
To register, contact Nadine Marchena Kean of the EZC at 774-8104.
