Police on St. Croix were assisting Superior Court marshals carry out an eviction order at an apartment in the JFK housing community Tuesday morning when a weapon and controlled substances were found.

A .30-caliber rifle, ammunition and a potted marijuana plant were found inside an apartment while marshals were removing furniture from the apartment pursuant to an eviction order. The tenant whose name appears on the official lease for the apartment was not present at the time.

The case was turned over to the V.I. Police Department and will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, according to the department.
