The deadline for filing the 2010 individual income tax returns with the bureau is Monday, April 18. Virgin Islands residents cannot file their returns using the e-filing option. BIR’s offices on St. Thomas and St. Croix will have extended hours for the convenience of the taxpayers based on the following schedules, according to a press release issued on April 8 by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
On St. Croix: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 to Friday, April 15
On St. John: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 to Friday, April 15
On St. Thomas: from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday, April 13, 14 and 15, at the Mandela Circle office/Cinema One Building
In addition, the following additional locations will be open on Friday, April 15 only to accept the filing of tax returns on the island of St. Thomas. These locations will not be accepting returns with payments:
Nisky Center – Excise Office: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tutu Park Mall (Center Court): 10 a.m.to7 p.m.
Taxpayers who are unable to file their 2010 returns by the April 18 due date are reminded that they must properly estimate any taxes due and remit with a valid extension on Form 4868 no later than April 18. The extension is granted for the filing of the return. Taxpayers who owe must pay the taxes due on April 18 to avoid the failure to pay penalty.
Questions about the extended office hours should be directed to Tamarah Parson-Smalls at 715-1040, ext. 2249.
