Kenneth L. Hermon Jr. PHR, director of the Division of Personnel, has announced testing for the ranks of correction officer and police officer in the St. Thomas-St. John District.
Qualifications: Completion of the 12th grade or possession of an equivalency certificate. A candidate must also possess or be able to qualify for a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 20 years of age and under 46 years old. Candidates must successfully pass the Civil Service Written Examination, as well as a physical agility test, a psychological exam, an oral board interview as well as a background check. The sign up period is April 11-29. Testing dates are May 23-27, according to a press release issued on April 8 from the Division of Personnel.
Note: All interested candidates must sign-up and submit a complete application package at the respective district office by Friday, April 29. Candidates who submitted an application prior are required to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in mailing addresses to ensure receipt of the confirmed examination notice. The preparation guide for the police officer written examination will be distributed April 18-20.
Applicants who have earned a degree in the following areas are exempt from sitting for the examination but are required to meet all the other established criteria for qualifications. Those include: Police Science, Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Fire Prevention, Accounting, Public Administration, and/or Business Administration.
