The Charlotte Amalie High School Varsity Baseball Team has departed from the territory to compete in the Hall of Fame National Baseball Classic at Orangewood Christian School in Orlando, Florida. The national tournament attracts top ranked high school baseball teams from across the United States and the territories and the Caribbean, according to a press release from Education Commissioner Dr. La Verne Terry issued on April 15.
“This is the fourth year the Chicken Hawks champions in the St. Thomas-St. John District have participated in this annual event,” Terry said. “This is a worthy experience for these athletes as they will be afforded the opportunity to compete with some of the best high school athletes from the mainland and the Caribbean, in addition to displaying their talents and meeting recruiters and college coaches.”
District Health and Physical Education Coordinator Mark Daniel said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for these student athletes to test their abilities against some of the top high school baseball teams in the country. The CAHS players have worked hard and are expected to do well at the 2011 Hall of Fame National Baseball Classic. This year’s team features three senior players: clean up hitter Frank Thomas Jr., pitching ace Lucas Pascal and Troy Richards. The team is fueled by an outstanding sophomore class led by shortstop J’moi Smith and center fielder N’Kai Dowe.”
The team will return to the territory on April 25.
