Service Providers Sought for Safe Schools CHOICES Program

0

The St. Croix District’s Division of Safe Schools is seeking service providers for its “CHOICES” (Current Issues,Historic Touch, Open Minded, Independent Thinking, Culturally Impacted, Engaged, Students)program. “CHOICES is an after-school and weekend program designed to transform after-school hours from a time of risk to a time of opportunity,” said Renee L.H. Hansen, program manager for the Safe Schools Program. “This after-school program incorporates three major elements: exposure, experience and engagement.”
A new component for the district’s safe schools program is the implementation of the YMCA approach to providing safe havens for students. Collaboration between stakeholders, community services providers and the Department of Education will establish two to three sites throughout the island. The project serves to expand opportunities for students to develop their artistic, creative and physical talents, skills and abilities, according to a press release from the Department of Education. Students will receive hands-on field experiences, showcase and exhibit talents, participate in competitive events and productions (art, film, TV production, theater, dance, chess, music instructions, boating, swimming, karate, etc.). The proposals will provide a fair evaluation for all candidates and provide the candidates with the evaluation criteria against which they will be judged.
Proposals must be received no later than noon on Friday, May 6.
