District Foreign Language Coordinator Myrna V. van Beverhoudt offered congratulations to all of the winners, the schools, teachers and principals, and thanked the donors who so generously provided the trophies, medals, prizes or gift certificates for this event. They are: William Creque of Community Motors, Dr. Alfred Heath, Alana Alexander of the Marketing Department of First Bank, Mr. Allie Petrus, owner of Subway, and Steven van Beverhoudt. “Special appreciation is extended to the management of the Tutu Park Mall, all of our distinguished judges and officials, foreign language teachers and student participants and their parents,” she said.
Sixteen schools participated in the display and contest segments and seven schools participated in the show segment of the showcase. The entries in the show segment ranged from a rendition of Martin Luther King’s Speech “I Have a Dream” in Spanish and English presented by Sra. Dussan’s students at the Marcelli Elementary School to a wonderful performance of “ Pour que tu m’aimes encore” performed by Mme Yimbia’s students at the Charlotte Amalie High School. The segment featured Spanish and French dances performed by students of the: Milliner-Bowsky Elementary School, All Saints Cathedral School, Antilles School, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, and Charlotte Amalie High School. The Spanish Ballet dance from the All Saints Cathedral School, the Zouk and the Salsa dances from the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, the French dance and song from the Charlotte Amalie High School, and the dance from the Milliner Bowsky Elementary School deserve special recognition.
