The Department of Planning and Natural Resources informs the public that the annual queen conch season closure in Virgin Islands territorial waters commences on June 1 and extends to Oct. 31, as established by regulation effective July 1, 2008.
Possession of queen conch during the closed season is prohibited.
The season will reopen on Nov. 1, and remain open until midnight May 31, 2012 or until the 50,000 lbs. quota per island district (St. Croix district and St. Thomas-St. John district) is reached, whichever comes first, according to a press release issued on Friday by DP NR.
DPNR asks everyone’s cooperation in order to protect Virgin Islands resources for the present and future benefit of the people of the territory.
For information on queen conch or other fisheries regulations, contact the Division of Environmental Enforcement at 773-5774 on St. Croix or 774-3320 on St. Thomas.
