Jerome Alphonso Benjamin of Estate Grove Place died on July 24, at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital. He was 87 years old.
He is survived by his son, Derek Benjamin; sister, Evelyn M. Williams; special companion, Mary Glasgow; grandchildren: Anthony Benjamin, Cadera Benjamin and Dereca Benjamin; great-grandchildren: Tyshawn Wilson, Shawn Derricks, Alfredo Sibilly, Cy Brotherson, Abraham Brotherson and Tariq Charles; nieces: Janet W. Lake, Ruby Vanterpool, Ina Benjamin Gill, Yvonne Henry and Lorraine Henry; nephews: Douglas M. Williams, Eric Benjamin Jr., Norris Benjamin, Milton Henry and Ezra Henry; nephews-in-law: Edgar Lake and Arthur Vanterpool; nieces-in-law: Olivia Benjamin, Gloria Williams and Sofia Benjamin; great nieces: Janice Benjamin, Brenda Benjamin and Denise Benjamin; great nephews: Melvin Benjamin, Tito Benjamin and Anthony Agathe; and a number of great-great nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
He is also survived by other family members: Marion Allick and family, Bianca Brannigan and family, Leona Richards and family, Dr. Rodney Richards and family, Hon. Daryl Donohue and family, Sharon Richards and family, Beverly Williams and family, Audrey Miller and family, Bianca Jones and family, Alfredo Johnson and family, Percival Johnson and family, Carmen Benjamin and family, and Aunt Lee Durant and family; close friends: Hubert Acoy, Charles, Ezekiel Johannes, Evelyn Williams (retired nurse) and family, Valerie and family, Sharon Williams and family, Elisa Dennis and family, the staff of Centerline Cash and Carry, and special thanks to Mary Glasgow and family.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the nurses and doctors of the Juan F. Luis Hospital for the care and patience given to Jerome while in their care. Special thanks to Dr. Dante Galiber, his primary physician, as well as to Rita Phillips, Debra Williams, Rochelle Gomez, Melvin Benjamin, Evelyn Williams (retired nurse/neighbor), Catherine Glasgow, Jenivieve Allen and Evelyn Baird. We thank the Deptartment of Human Services and those we neglected to mention specifically.
A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. and a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Estate Upper Love. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
