Legacy Stuns Guidance in OT, Boy Dem Handles Alliance

Boys Dem’s Terrel Christian hammers one down on Alliance’s Charles Sealey.Legacy and Boys Dem got off to great starts in the 2011 NBBA playoffs by taking game one of their respective best-of-three playoff series Monday night at the Ronald Charles Gymnasium.

Legacy, taking on the defending champions Guidance, got a late three-pointer from Bobby Evans to tie the game at 70 and send it into overtime, where in front of their boisterous fans they were able to outlast Guidance for the 83-81 shocker.

Boys Dem, on the other hand, were just too much for Alliance as they led by as much as 22 points. Alliance did rally in the third to get to within six, but order was restored as Boys Dem gradually pulled away for the 73-59 victory.

The Legacy victory was a stunner for some fans in the gym, but not for fans in the know. Legacy, earlier in the season, took the champs to overtime where they came up just short on that occasion. However, on Monday they showed that they were an improved team that now has the defending champions on the ropes, one game from elimination.

Sean Tutein led the way for Legacy with a huge night on the floor. He scored 28 points, eight of which came in overtime, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Bobby Evans, Legacy’s floor general, also had a great all-around game as he ditched out 10 assists, scored 13 and added six rebounds. They were the only two players in double figures, but Legacy also got good contributions from four players with at least eight.

Joelfry Polanco led the Guidance charge with 19 points, AQ Hillarie finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds, and Eric McBean had 15 points.

Terrel Christian scored a game-high 24 points that included a couple of highlight reel dunks, to lead Boys Dem over Alliance in the night’s second playoff contest, 73-59. He was ably supported by Salim Ross with 17 points and Wilson Ferrance who finished with 12.

Alliance was led by the team’s leading scorer, Warren Christian, who finished with 21 points, and Shawn Bradley who added 14. In a game that had blowout written all over it for Alliance, they showed some grit in rallying to make things interesting, but in the end the cream, Boys Dem, did rise to the top.

Legacy and Boys Dem will look to close out their respective series Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Charles gym.
