VIUCEDD and Human Services Host Assistive Technology and Health Fair

The Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) and the Department of Human Services will host the “POWER UP ST. CROIX” Assistive Technology Expo & Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the UVI Great Hall. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities are especially invited to attend as well as their caregivers. Homebound participants or others unable to attend in person may also view the fair activities live via VIUCEDD Channel online at www.ustream.tv/channel/viucedd.
“POWER UP ST. CROIX” will feature the latest in assistive technology: augmentative, daily living, hearing, iPad, vision devices and computers and
software. Also featured will be a financial planning workshop and presentation on ear care and hearing instruments as well as eye and hearing screenings along with wheelchair aerobics.
VIUCEDD Associate Director Charles Beady, Ph.D., will open the event followed by a brief presentation about inroads made for persons with disabilities since VIUCEDD brought awareness and assistive technology resources to the territory in 1994. Additional insights on disability, health and the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities will be given by Murlene VanBeverhoudt, acting administrator, Division of Senior Citizens Affairs,V.I. Department of Human Services.
There will be door prizes, refreshments and information and awareness
about VIUCEDD and DHS programs and services.
