UVI Alumna/State Department Epidemiologist Lectures on HIV Research

UVI alumna Delivette Castor, Ph.D. will give a talk at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 14, on St. Thomas at UVI’s Business Education Room 110 (Chase Auditorium). Dr. Castor also will speak on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen campus on St. Croix at noon on Friday, Sept. 16, in Room 401 of the Melvin Evans Center. She will speak on the “Global Epidemiology of HIV Disease” with students and faculty of the UVI College of Science and Mathematics.
Dr. Castor received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from UVI in 1997 and went on to earn a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a doctorate in epidemiology from Columbia University. She completed her post-doctoral studies in translational sciences at Rockefeller University in New York.
She is currently the epidemiologist/statistician in the Technical Leadership and Research Division of the Office of HIV/AIDS for the State Department’s U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she designs research relative to HIV prevention in Africa and other parts of the world. Castor’s responsibilities include applying empirical data and complex analytical approaches to HVI/AIDS in a number of African countries.
