On Saturday, Sept. 24, more than 180,000 volunteers, including those at Sandy Point NW, will visit their favorite parks, beaches, wildlife refuges or forests and chip in to help improve these treasured places. They’ll be taking part in National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands in the United States.
This year marks the 18th annual National Public Lands Day, an event that brings together thousands of volunteers from coast to coast to improve and restore the lands and facilities that Americans use for recreation, education, exercise and enjoyment. Last year, more than 170,000 Americans participated at more than 2,000 sites in all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
Teams of volunteers will help to clear the beaches at Sandy Point of invasive tan-tan, love vine and inkberry. To volunteer, simply show up at the gate at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. Come as an individual or come as a team. No reservations are necessary. The group will caravan to the beach at 9:15 a.m. Participants should bring a water bottle, protection from the sun, and gloves if they have them.
