Two Men Arrested for Selling Drugs on Veste Gade

Two St. John men were arrested Friday after they were seen by police allegedly selling drugs on Veste Gade in Cruz Bay, Police Department spokesman Melody Rames said Monday. This is the block-long street that runs between the post office and First Bank.

According to a police press release, Malco Bolques, 28, of Chocolate Hole and Thomas Simon, 27, of Estate Pastory were arrested shortly before 10 p.m. and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and resisting arrest.

The press release indicates officers observed the men conducting what appeared to drug transactions near a Veste Gade restaurant and bar. When police approached the suspects they ran to avoid capture. A foot chase resulted, but the suspects were apprehended and captured.

The suspects were found to be in possession of four small plastic bags of what was field tested to be marijuana and more than $2,300 in cash.

Bail for each suspect was set at $10,000, and they were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.

Deputy Police Chief Darren Foy said that in response to complaints, police are now patrolling areas of Cruz Bay on foot rather than in patrol cars. He said they’re watching for issues like drug transactions and disturbances such as fights.
