Human Services Hosts First Childcare Provider Orientation Event

The Department of Human Services will host its first recognition and orientation ceremony to applaud the efforts of childcare providers throughout the territory and equip them with available resources to assist them in their continued service. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 5, on St. Thomas at the Sugar Bay Resort and on Friday, Oct. 7, at the UVI Great Hall on St. Croix.
Human Services will recognize providers for their commitment to the children of the Virgin Islands and offer further support by exposing directors to resources in the community that can assist them in providing adequate service to the families they serve. With the onset of revamped Childcare Rules and Regulations and the anticipated implementation of a Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS), the workshop will entail vital information in key areas including, but not limited to, safe sleep and SIDS, child immunizations, working with children with special needs, mandatory reporting of abuse and neglect, behavior management and toxic substances policy. The Departments of Health and Education will also offer suggestions and essential educational practices.
