We From Upstreet Inc. (WEFUS) in collaboration with the Kidscope Inc. will celebrate the 16th anniversary of the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Virgin Islands Veterans Memorial Park. This year’s honoree is Dilsa Capdeville, director of Kidscope Inc. Born and raised in the UpStreet community, Capdeville will be recognized for over 40 years of dedication and commitment to providing social services, vocational counseling and case advocacy for victims of crimes and domestic violence. This year’s theme, “A Wish for Our Children,” focuses on the year-round goals and objectives of WEFUS and Kidscope, as they continue to strive to provide educational, artistic and social programs to children.
The dates of the events are as follows:
Sunday. Dec. 11 – 3-7:30 p.m. “A Wish for our Children”: Official Lighting of the park with several public, private and parochial school bands, choirs, dancers and steel orchestras. Special benefit concert and album release of “Freedom Children” by Trombonist Reginald Cyntje and Friends.
Monday, Dec. 12 — 5:30-8:30 p.m.
“Cultural Night”: Presentations by church and community choirs, The Mungo Niles Cultural Dancers and the St. Thomas Heritage Quadrille Dancers. Milo’s Kings will highlight the evening with Christmas songs from yesteryear.
Tuesday, Dec. 13 — 5:30-8:30 p.m.
“Country Comes to Town“, featuring the sounds of East-ends favorite Barefoot Davis and Friends begins the evening with his country and western musical selections. WEFUS ends the evening with "A Motown Christmas,” taking you back in time to Christmas songs of the 60s, 70s and 80s performed by popular local artists.
Admission is free: Food and drinks will be on sale. All proceeds will benefit both organizations . Bring chairs and blankets.
