Three Water Plants Up and Running on St. Thomas

Three reverse osmosis plants have gone online and are producing water at the Randolph E. Harley power plant on St. Thomas.

According to Executive Director Hugo Hodge Jr., the activity is a major step in returning water service to St. Thomas customers. While there are no guarantees, Hodge said, every attempt is being made to gravity-feed water to the lower-lying areas of St. Thomas.

In the meantime, WAPA will be building storage and pressure in an effort to pump to the higher elevations on Saturday morning from 5 to 7 a.m. Hodge said the Harley power plant has been stabilized after the failure on boiler Unit No. 11 Thursday night, and while the incident delayed the schedule, WAPA is still working around the clock to provide water service for most of the day on Sunday and Monday.

Customers are urged to listen to their local stations, visit WAPA’s website at www.viwapa.vi, or sign up for WAPA’s portal on www.vialert.gov.
