The exhibit will feature a photographic essay developed by Berg and Brumant. Their photographs visually investigate the social and ecological aspects of the site, and highlight the intimate activities and routines that sometimes go unnoticed by the occasional visitor. Drummond’s work is a sculptural installation of found materials that are suspended from the gallery’s ceiling. From her daily walks on the site, she has organized glass, shell, wood, and stone to evoke the ancient and timeless processes that continue to shape the beach that we see today. The collaboration between these artists and the Park Service is in conjunction with the observance of the park’s anniversary. The Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve will be 20 years old on Feb. 24, and is co-managed through the V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources and the NPS. The exhibit opening is sponsored by Machete Gallery, Moonblaze Productions, and VI Italian Trading. The exhibit will run through April 15 and is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays and by appointment.
This initiative is part of the NPS public information campaign to raise awareness of Salt River Bay’s important cultural and natural resources and the joint role that the Government of the Virgin Islands and the National Park Service play in their protection. www.nps.gov
