Country Day Wins St. Croix MATHCOUNTS Competition

The Country Day School team emerged as the overall winner of the St. Croix District MATHCOUNTS competition held at Good Hope School gymnasium Thursday. Elena Christian Junior High School placed second in the mathematical competition in the team round. Country Day School 14 year-old eighth grader Ethan Dean topped seven students to capture the countdown round in the contest. The Country Day team was comprised of members Dean, Julian DiPersio, Sierra Van Allen and Kalahari Bryan.
The winning team along with Taahira Guzman of Good Hope, Hannah Elser of Manor, Hazel Acosta and Andrew Peacock of Country Day, and Dante Harris and Ameera Mustafa of Elena Christian Junior High will compete in state competitions scheduled for Thursday, March 29, on St. Croix. Winners in the state competition will advance to the Ratheon MATHCOUNTS national competition to be held on Friday, May 11, in Orlando, Florida.
Sponsors of the St. Croix District MATHCOUNTS are St. Croix Rotary Club Mid-isle and the V.I. Department of Education. Math coordinator Juanita Boneque organizes and directs MATHCOUNTS for the school district.
