Country Day Wins St. Croix MATHCOUNTS

Country Day School emerged as the overall winner of the St. Croix District MATHCOUNTS competition held at Good Hope School gymnasium Thursday. Elena Christian Junior High School placed second in the mathematical competition in the team round.

Ethan Dean, a 14 year-old Country Day School eighth-grader, topped seven students to capture the countdown round in the contest.

The Country Day team comprised Dean, Julian DiPersio, Sierra Van Allen and Kalahari Bryan.

The winning team members will compete in state competitions scheduled for March 29 on St. Croix. ,
Other contestants advancing to the state level MATHCOUNTS are Taahira Guzman of Good Hope; Hannah Elser of Manor; Hazel Acosta and Andrew Peacock of Country Day; and Dante Harris and Ameera Mustafa of Elena Christian Junior High.

Winners in the state competition will advance to the Raytheon MATHCOUNTS national competition on May 11 in Orlando.

Sponsors of the St. Croix District MATHCOUNTS are St. Croix Rotary Club Mid-isle and the V.I. Department of Education. Math Coordinator Juanita Boneque organizes and directs MATHCOUNTS for the school district.
