When I speak to many fellow Virgin Islanders about these senseless murders their response is generally the same. ‘Oh, these are just drug related, let them kill each other, better for us’. Shocking! We have allowed these killings to become ‘acceptable’ because they do not involve some of us. Has anyone noticed that the killers and the victims have been getting younger throughout the years; girls are now killing. We need to work on this as a community. It is time to give a damn.
As part of an armed neighborhood watch committee, I am doing MY part. What are YOU doing?
Why so defensive? Don’t you think someone has to be held accountable for the rapid increase in crime. Where the parents & what are are they doing to ensure that their kids are not the aggressors or victims. We laugh at the cuteness of rebellion & ‘own way’ when they’re young, but when the cute factor has worn off and it turns into a criminal issue…who’s laughing? Neighborhood watches and villages raising kids are fine, but behavior has to be modified from a young age and that is the primary responsibility of the parents. What is law enforcement doing to protect the innocent from the ‘bad apples’? I have seen groups of kids attack a single person based solely on his/her address…turf wars stemming back to the early 80’s. What is being done to eliminate that type of aggression? Kids are still scared to ride the buses or walk home for fear of being attacked. How many of those assailants are being prosecuted and incarcerated for these crimes? Yeah…yeah…rehabilitation first…but there are numerous outlets and opportunities out there for those not inclined to secondary education, and some parents & KIDS just don’t care enough. If the territory doesn’t send out a CLEAR message that this type of behavior (whether drug related, gang, turf war, bullying) comes with serious consequences, our sweet island home will become worse off than DC on a holiday weekend. Ps. this has been going on much longer than thought…they’re only escalating. We need to DEMAND change & action from our elected leaders!
Armed neighborhood watch is Your contribution to stopping the murder violence here in the territory???? Any fool can own a gun and somtimes neighborhood watchers become murderers themselves.. like that nut Zimmerman.
Sad very sad. Martial Law to collect the garbage and flush them out. Obviously the VIPD cannot stop the killing. Cannot maintain a safe community. Very sad indeed.
Chilli, I am fully trained, educated, experienced, licensed and capable. You won’t have to worry about me. The bad guys know who we are and they keep their distance.
But you didn’t answer my question (you usually don’t) what are *YOU* doing right now to make these islands safe?
We? What are *YOU* doing about the problem?
Cruzaniron, I am keeping myself and my family safe but what I am saying today is that we as Virgin Islanders have to take an osteopathic approach (get to the root cause and fix it approach) to solving this problem, not just a defensive (build a fort and arm up) approach. I stated before that I operate in the truth and truthfully, I have not been proactive in solving this problem. I was walking around with the same mind-set, ‘if it aint affectin’ me, it is a non-issue’. By the way, nobody is questioning your intelligence. Stop being jumpy and defensive. Go to the hospital and get one of Jeff’s RN’s to give you a chill pill.
Again, you use the word WE. WE starts with ONE. What have you done or what are YOU doing to solve the problem? I am tired of hearing people say WE, because what they really mean is SOMEONE ELSE. Got to go now. Gotta get my food shopping done before the end of the month rush.
