The National Park Service will be working with Trademark Dock based in Florida and some local contractors to execute the project tasks. The pier will be closed to public use starting mid-May. An area 300-ft around the pier will be closed to all boating and recreational activities during demolition and construction. The closed area will be buoyed. A large barge and dive crew will work on the pier. The construction will resume on May 21 and the completion target date is July 17.
There may be some construction noise from demolition/construction; the National Park Service appreciates the public’s understanding while it makes these beneficial improvements in the visitor facilities. Please keep a safe distance from work areas at all times.
The National Park Service also will remove the sun shades and their hardware from Diedrich’s Point, and a series of indigenous tree seedlings will be planted out along the beach head. The goal is for these trees to provide shade for the picnic area in the future.
During this time, the pier and surrounding land and water, the picnic areas at Diedrich’s Point and the section of the hiking trail nearest the point will be closed to the public.
The project resumed in April, and was postponed due to rough seas until now. It is expected that work on the project will continue for at least 40 days.
