A St. Croix man allegedly choked his partner, disabled her vehicle, took her cell phone, and prevented her and her children from leaving the apartment in a domestic violence incident Monday, according to a Police Department press release issued Tuesday.

The suspect was described as being 22 years old, Hispanic, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and last seen wearing a black shirt and jeans. Police Department spokesman Melody Rames said the department isn’t releasing the suspect’s name and doesn’t want the public to look for him.

According to the press release, police responded to a disturbance at the Harbor View Apartments on St. Croix at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, where officers were told that there was a domestic disturbance.

The victim told police that after the argument she went to sleep. When she woke up about 7 a.m. Monday the suspect was gone. She secured the apartment and called the police. When police arrived they searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is actively investigating this case.
