VING to Conduct Summer Youth Leadership Camp on St. Thomas

0
The Virgin Islands National Guard Family Program Office is scheduled to conduct Summer Youth Leadership Camp on Monday, Aug. 13, at the Sergeant First Class Leonard B. Francis Readiness Center on St. Thomas. The weeklong camp will run throughout the week to conclude Saturday, Aug. 18.
Camp personnel numbers approximately 125: 65 campers between the ages of seven years and 17 years old, and 60 staff consisting of guardsmen, military retirees, community leaders, parents and family volunteers.
The camp, which is funded by the National Military Family Association, is available free of charge for military children between the ages of seven to 17 with overnight segments for the youth between the ages of 13 to 17.
The Operation Purple program was created in 2004 in response to parents’ calls to "help us help our kids." The mission of the program is to empower military children and their families to develop and maintain healthy and connected relationships in spite of the current military environment.
The program is joint or "purple"— and open to children and families of active duty, National Guard or Reserve service members from the Army and Air Force.
