The West Indian Company Ltd. in conjunction with United Jazz International will host a history-making jazz concert featuring more than three generations of Virgin Islands jazz artists. The “Generations in Jazz” concert will take place from 4-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Havensight Mall in the gazebo area on the West Indian Company dock.
“We are pleased to collaborate with United Jazz International to present, for the first time, an impressive line-up of musical talent that spans several generations,” said Joe Boschulte, president and CEO of the West Indian Company Ltd.. “These musicians represent an impressive legacy of talent. And it certainly is the kind of event visitors and locals can enjoy since music is universal in its influence and appeal.”
Boschulte said he is optimistic that “Generations in Jazz” will be the first in what will develop into a regular concert series. “A lot depends on the public’s interest and response. We are encouraging the stores and restaurants to remain open later than usual to accommodate people who want to dine and shop.”
Featured artists include drummer Dion Parsons, saxophonist Jonte Samuel and trombonist Dr. LeRoy Trotman. Also featured are Kai Richardson on trumpet, Tabari Lake on bass, Roan Creque on piano and Eddie LeBron on percussions.
Guest artists include Lorna Freeman, Dennis Frett, and Joe Ramsey along with Bill Johnson and Company.
The concertis free and open to the public.
