The Division of Real Property Tax will hold its third round of auctions for properties in delinquent payment status of 10 or more years beginning on Aug. 22. Sales of properties in the St. Thomas-St. John District will take place from Aug. 22-24 in the courtyard of the GERS Building on Kronprindsens Gade. Delinquent property auctions on St. Croix will take place on Aug. 29 at the Virgin Islands Cardiac Center, according to a press release issued Friday by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
The property auctions will begin at 9 a.m. on each of the scheduled auction days. In the event the auction does not conclude on the first day, it will continue on the second or third days. Potential bidders are encouraged to register between 8 – 9 a.m. on the auction day. Bidders cannot register in advance of the auction or register once the auction has begun.
Owners of delinquent properties can either pay their balances in full or enter into an installment arrangement in order to avoid the sale of their properties. Property owners interested in making arrangements are advised to contact the Office of the Tax Collector at 776-8505 on St. Thomas, 776-6737 on St. John, 773-1105 in Christiansted or 772-0120 for the Frederiksted office. Property owners whose properties are in probate are asked to file their cases with the Recorder of Deeds Office in their district.
A list of the properties that are slated for auction and the terms of sale can be viewed at www.ltg.gov.vi.
