Cyril Adolphus Barnes, a centenarian and oldest WWII veteran in the U.S. Virgin Islands, born Dec. 22, 1910, received his wings on Aug. 17, 2012, at the age of 101.
He is survived by his son, Harold (N.Y.), daughter, Violet Barnes Hughes (N.Y.); sister, Leona Barnes Shulterbrandt (St. Thomas); brother, Alphonso Aaron (N.Y.); grandsons: Eric Stevens, Julius Hughes; granddaughters: HelenaMarie Stevens, Sherise Hughes; greatgrandchildren: Anthony Stevens (N.Y.); Kimitra Stevens (Penn.), Eric Stevens Jr.; nephews: James Francis (N.Y.), Rudolph G. A first viewing will take place at 8:30 a.m. at Post 85 American Legion Hall on Monday, Aug. 27. A second viewing will be held at 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, at St. John’s Anglican Church. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
