In support of Governor deJongh’s health initiatives, the Division of Personnel, in partnership with the G.E.S.C Health Board, will host the Government of the Virgin Islands’ first Health and Wellness Expo on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas and on Friday, Sept. 7, at the UVI Albert A. Sheen Great Hall on St. Croix. Both events will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to a press release from the V.I. Division of Personnel.
This effort will mark the official launch of the Government of the Virgin Islands Health & Wellness Initiative for government employees. The event will feature free glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol screenings and health risk assessments for active employee members who present their CIGNA insurance card along with a government issued ID.
Over 25 exhibitors will showcase a variety of products and services available that target health and exercise, beauty treatments, natural and holistic healing and many more resources. There will also be a program of guest speakers and interactive demonstrations to include healthy cooking techniques by the V.I. Culinary Team and Executive Chef Linda Chesterfield, as well as aerobics, zumba and yoga exercise demonstrations.
Employees who attend will also receive GVI H.E.A.L.T.H. give-a-ways and paraphernalia, and there will be special prize drawings to include his and her spa packages.
Director Hermon said, “With the funds provided this year by CIGNA to incentivize employee participation, the first 1000 employees to complete their health risk assessments with their biometric data on www.mycigna.com before Dec. 21, will be automatically entitled to a $25 gift card. The first 500 employees who go the extra step and also complete both of their free dental visits, and have an eye exam in 2013 will receive an additional $50 gift card plus have a chance to win one of 20 IPads.”
Director Hermon said, “With the ever increasing cost of health insurance, this expo is an important way for employees to learn new information and speak directly to experts who can assist them in making healthier lifestyle choices. By providing employees with access to these types of forums, they will better understand how their lifestyle choices directly impact the insurance premiums they pay on a bi-weekly basis.”
