Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. announced that Friday, Sept. 7, is the last day for students participating in the Fourth Annual Summer Reading Challenge to submit their tracking sheets.
With the new school year starting, the program encouraging students in grades K-8 to spend their summers reading ends. Tracking sheets will be accepted until close of business on Friday, according to a press release issued on Thursday by the Office of the Governor.
“All students who participated in the reading challenge should turn in their tracking sheets to ensure that they receive full credit for all the books they enjoyed reading over the summer break,” deJongh said. Completed tracking sheets may be turned in to a teacher or school librarian. The forms may also be dropped off at Government House.
Students who finished a minimum of five books this summer will be invited to a “Fun Day” with the governor; the events will be held in both districts and will recognize student achievement with awards and prizes. Details on the closing events will be announced shortly.
The Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge is a partnership between the Governor’s Office, the Virgin Islands Department of Education and the V.I. Public Library.
