Mary Eliza Harris Lee, also known as "Ms. Mary,” “Ms. Harris,” “Grand” or “Mama Lee," of the Herbert Grigg Home died on Monday, Sept. 10. She was 91 years old.
She is survived by her daughters: Merna Henry Krauser, Joan Henry Petersen and Claudette Henry Vanterpool; son, Dennis O. Vanterpool Jr.; special children: Lydia Henry Hendricks, Leroy Henry, Claude Hendricks and Mario Peterson Sr.; grandchildren: Lorraine Krauser Jacobs, Janet Petersen, Deron Krauser Sr., Ronald, Raymond and Richard Krauser, Dennis O. Vanterpool Jr., Mario Anthony Petersen Jr., Keisha L. Vanterpool and Velencia M. Brown-Joseph; great-grandchildren: Laura Benjamin, Lawrence Benjamin, Keisha L. Vanterpool and Dennis Vanterpool III, Vanessa Krauser Martin, Deron Jr., Shenae’, Atiya, Jevon, Shareema, Denisha, Kenisha and Tamia Krauser, and J’Nique Jacob; great-great grandchildren: A’mani Henry, Adessa and Aden Martin; sons-in-law: Ruben Krauser, Mario Petersen and Dennis O. Vanterpool Sr.; sisters-in-law: Marion Lee O’Rilley, Perline Jacobs, Rosalia and Aurella Civil, and Marilyn Lee; and brothers-in-law: Roosevelt and Rexford Lee.
She is also survived by granddaughters-in-law: Regina, Jennifer, Natasha and Marilyn Krauser; grandsons-in-law: Newton Jacob, Adam Martim and Bertrand Joseph; nieces: Virginia Smith Walker, Dolorita Smith Bridgewater and Margarita Smith Heywood; nephews: Arthur Jr., Rudolph and Leon Smith, and Charles Rose; 11 great nieces; 16 great nephews; godchildren: Vanessa Shelton Springer, Myrtle, Denise and Anthony Farrley, Valarie William, Sheri Smith Thomas, Hillarie Henry, Dorette Roberts and numerous other godchildren; special friends and relatives: Neville Lee and family, Asta Williams and family, Mary Edwards and family, Elaine Gomez and family, Eleanor Sealey and family, Lynette Mercardo and family, Aldora Flemming and family, Jensina Matthews and family, Miriam Phillips, Elisa Walcott, Magdaline/Frederiksted Senior Citizen Center, Roseann Washington and family, Judith Martin, Delroy Thomas, Rupert Dore and family, the Henry, Harris, Christian, Davis, Adlum, Mendez, McIntosh and Wilson families; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will be held at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at noon on Thursday, Sept. 20, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Frederiksted. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
