Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts Expands Artists in Residence Program

The Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts Inc. is collaborating with the VI/PR Friendship Committee to enlarge, expand and captivate a larger audience. CMCArts will be presenting a live musical component in addition to its visual artists.
Artists Damary Burgos, her husband, Ramon Lopez Colon and 15 musicians from Puerto Rico will be October’s Artists in Residence, including a troupe of multi-talented musicians, Bomba Urbana.
For CMCArts, this is an opportunity to expand on its previous Artist in Residency Program (AIRP) and bring a broad cultural experience to St. Croix from Puerto Rico. The title of the show is “Saltwater” or “Agua Salada.” Burgos’ installation, “Terrazos, wind and high tide in St. Croix" is an expansion of that inaugurated at the Conde de Mirasol Fort Museum on Vieques in 2010. Burgos and Lopez Colon, along with the musical instructor, Miriam Perez, and Fernadito Ferrer will offer many opportunities to the Crucian community to become involved with a cultural experience.
The exposure of our community to the work of all these Puerto Rican artists will increase awareness of the multiple similarities we all face in our attempts to use art/s as “creative resistance” to triumph over many adversities.
CMCArts’ unique Artist in Residence Program has brought international artistic, curatorial and literary stars to its special place on St. Croix since opening its doors in 2004. The program is the heart and soul of CMCArts.
