UVI Alerts Public of Unauthorized Solicitations

0

On Friday, Sept. 28, University of the Virgin Islands officials were alerted to unauthorized solicitations being made on behalf of the university. UVI received several calls from businesses in the Crown Bay area of St. Thomas seeking to confirm whether a student was authorized to collect cash for a new aquatic or marine center. No plans are underway at UVI to build a new aquatic or marine center. Any such solicitations are fraudulent and should be reported to the V.I. Police Department or to UVI’s security department at 693-1530.
“There are no plans for UVI to build an aquatic center at this time and even if such plans were underway, we would never task students with the responsibility of fundraising for a capital project by collecting cash from businesses,” said UVI’s Vice President for Institutional Advancement Dionne V. Jackson. “We thank the representatives from the businesses who brought this matter to our attention.”
For more information about legitimate fundraising campaigns at UVI, call Mitchell Neaves at 693-1046 or 693-1040.
