VIWMA Recognizes Grant Awardee on the Opening of Its Eco-Store

0

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) congratulates the V.I. Montessori School and International Academy (VIMSIA) on the grand opening of their Eco-Store from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The store will be selling eco-friendly products, such as lunch kits, baseball caps, water bottles, insulated coffee tumblers and sunscreen. They will also carry children’s books about the environment.
The school is a recipient of one of the VIWMA’s 2011 Community Enrichment Grants (CEG) in the amount of $7,297. Their proposal, Mission: Green Student, was for the creation of a non-profit, on-campus, student-run Eco-Store, which would be available to parents, staff and students. The purpose of this store is to create environmental awareness through educational products, sustainable eco-products and advertisement of environmental events.
The goal of the VIWMA’s grant program was to provide opportunities for youth groups, schools and non-profit organizations to take an active role in the improvement of the environment of the Virgin Islands by utilizing funds that were made available by the VIWMA for environmental improvement programs. Regrettably, the program has been suspended due to austerity measures.
The authority and the Montessori School welcome and encourage members of the community to visit the VIMSIA’s Eco-Store on Saturday and check out their eco-friendly products.
