Construction begins Friday on a mechanically stabilized earth wall on Crown Mountain Road in Estate Dorothea, limiting traffic on the road while the six-month project is under construction.
The Department of Public Works reported Thursday that Custom Builders will begin the project, and east and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane, using a temporary automated traffic-control signal system.
The automated temporary traffic light system will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the duration of the project.
Temporary traffic-control signs will be installed to alert the public that there is a construction zone ahead, for drivers to reduce speed, and that there is a lane reduction and a traffic signal ahead. White painted concrete barriers with double-orange reflective tape will be installed in the construction zone to separate the roadway from the work zone.
The news release from Public Works asked motorists to proceed through the area with extreme caution at all times, and to seek alternative routes if necessary to avoid delays from construction activities.

Six months? Why are there not more stringent inspection and realistic requirements on job duration. The period of time allowed in this and other contracts for public projects is really a mystery. When you pass these projects during the workday and see no one working, the question is “Why are we paying premium, and I mean premium, prices for public work and not requiring expeditious performance from the contractor”?
