Slevin Expected to Lock Horns with Really Uptown in ‘Turkey Bowl Classic’

The featured 11th race of Sunday’s Randall “Doc” James racetrack Thanksgiving Day card is gearing up to be one for the ages as Tortola’s Really Uptown, debatably one of the quickest thoroughbreds in all of the Virgin Islands, travels to St. Croix to challenge the mighty Slevin, who currently holds the record for the disputed distance at 1:29.1.

“The track record will undoubtedly be threatened by these two,” said TRAXCO’s manager, Dennis Brow. “I expect Really Uptown to go fast early, create some separation, then try to hold off an expected late rush by Slevin,” he said. “The race, on paper, looks to be very tough and I believe any of them could win, but if the real Slevin shows up it could also be a walk over.”

There are two other horses entered in the 7 ½ furlongs race: Good Prospecting from Tortola and a local entry, Burn the Harp. Good Prospecting apparently failed to make the trip across the pond and Burn the Harp is in way over his head. In the words of one horse racing enthusiast, nothing short of fatal, in-race heart attacks by the top two runners could give him a sliver of a chance of winning this race.
