The tenth annual Against the Tide in the Virgin Islands, Swim for Breast Cancer will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Magens Bay. Proceeds will go to aid people on St. Thomas with breast cancer.
Registration will take place from 9-9:45 a.m. so people have time to get to the far end of the beach for the start. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for those under 18 years old. In the past, the youngest participants have been six months old and the oldest have been 82 years young.
Awards will go the first place finisher in each category for youth and adults, male and female. A special award will go the community team with the most participants and the school team with the most participants.
Come and take part as a wader (waders must be waist deep), swimmer or use fins. Bring the whole family and tote a loved one on a float, noodle or other swim toy.
There will be a safety patrol on the beach and in kayaks to make sure participants are safe in the water.
Against the Tide, Swim for Breast Cancer still needs sponsors to help with expenses, so those who can help or know of a business that can help, please contact the organization. Their names or business logos will be printed on the backs of T-shirts.
