Territory's First Two Homicides of the Year Reported Sunday

The U.S. Virgin Islands recorded its first two homicides of the year Sunday.

Police Public Information Officer Melody Rames confirmed that a 24-year-old man, identified by his family as Lucas Reid Jr., was shot and killed Sunday morning at Estate Hospital Ground.

Police responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the Hospital Ground area a few minutes after 10 a.m. Sunday. When detectives arrived on the scene they found an unresponsive man inside a blue Honda Civic. The victim was shot at least once and expired at the scene.

The case is being investigated by detectives of the Major Crime unit to determine the circumstances and persons involved in this case. Anyone with information regarding can call detectives at 715-5522 or 715-5516, or call the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.

No details were available late Sunday for the second homicide reported on St. Thomas. According to a person close to law enforcement who called the Source, a person was shot and killed on Garden Street at about 7:10 p.m. The 911 emergency call center’s blotter shows a report of a deceased person in the Garden Street area was logged at 8:07 p.m.

The officers responding to the reported homicide had not yet returned to file their reports, so no details were available from the police as of Sunday evening.

A law enforcement source confrimed Monday morning the second homicide after a body was found in a parking lot across the street from the Elections System office on Crystal Gade Sunday evening shortly after 8 p.m.
