Pistarckle Theater Presents “A Raisin in the Sun”

0

“A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry is a landmark American drama. Set in the early 50s in a southside Chicago ghetto, it’s a portrayal of a family trying to rise out of its impoverished existence. It was the first time African-American characters were lifted out of the stereotypes and realized as fully fleshed out characters. This moving and brilliant play has stood the test of time. Even though circumstances have changed since the play was written, it’s a story that still resonates as it tells the struggle of one man’s search for dignity and purpose amidst the prejudice of his times and the objections of his family, who feel his ambition is ill placed.
The cast includes Elgin Gordon as Walter Lee Younger, Myrna Chase as Lena Younger (Mama), Jada M. Lark as Ruth Younger, Shugga Reese as Beneatha Younger, Irvin Mason Jr. as Travis Younger, Richard Norman as Joseph Asagi, Devante Matthew as George Murchison, Drew Bower as Bobo and Garry Bryan as Karl Linder.
