Lew Muckle Elementary School will observe Black History Month (BHM) on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 8:45 a.m. in the school cafeteria for primary students, and again at 1:10 p.m. for the other grades. Students will recognize and showcase the heritage and accomplishments of Africans in songs, dance, skits and more.
The activities kicked off on Wednesday, Feb. 6 with the Voices of Our Ancestors Program. During the program, students listed the significant historical accomplishments of Virgin Islanders like David Hamilton Jackson, Judge Eileen Petersen and the Gov. Cyril Emmanuel King. The BHM program also included the contributions of Hispanic Virgin Islanders.
Additionally, Joan Sealey of the Virgin Islands Workshop Guild shared a very effective and interactive lesson on recycling. She showed students how to use craps and trash to create culturally inspiring art and craft products while protecting and preserving the environment.
