UVI Announces 2013 Afternoon on the Green Winners

Brianna Hairston won the “People’s Choice” Award and third place in the Pastries and Sweeties category of the 2013 edition of Afternoon on the Green. Hairston, a Charlotte Amalie High School student, has entered the competition twice before.The University of the Virgin Islands announced the winners of the 24th Annual Afternoon on the Green held on Sunday, March 10. The co-chair of the event, Cheryl Miller, thanked all participants, cooks and volunteers for coming out to support UVI’s annual “friendraiser,” and congratulated all of the cooks and volunteers that received awards on Sunday.
For the third year in a row, Brianna Hairston received the People’s Choice Award, by receiving the most texts through the Choice Wireless text voting. In 2012, she received the award for her vanilla cupcakes, and in 2011, she received first place in the Pastries and Sweeties Category for her red velvet cupcakes. As the People’s Choice winner, Hairston won an Android phone from Choice Communications.
The recipients of the Afternoon on the Green Edward C. Thomas Service Awards for 2013 were Estica Caesar, who was named UVI Student Volunteer of the Year, and Raiyna Lanclos, who was named UVI Community Volunteer of the Year. The following is a complete list of winners for the food competition.
