Trenching will begin on St. Thomas and St. Croix on Monday, March 25, according to a press release from Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN).
St. Thomas: Trenching will commence along the Nicholas Friday Highway (Route 32): Trenching will commence from Nadir intersection (Route 30 and 32) and trenching towards East End Substation (Estate Nazareth). Normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Inner-duct and fiber pulling will commence along de Beltjen Road, Sugar Estate Road (Route 38), Long Bay Road, Lover’s Lane and Rumer Drive.
St. Croix: Trenching will commence from Orange Groove Intersection along Route 75, passing along Bingo Hall and Richmond Post Office to the intersection of Kings Street and Contentment Road.
Inner-duct and fiber pulling will commence from Route 68 (Hess Road) and Route 70 (Queen Mary Highway) to Orange Grove Intersection (Route 75).
Aerial will commence from Divi Carina Bay Resort along Route 60, westward towards Union and Mount Washington then along Route 624 and finally along Route 66 (South Shore Road) to Estate Humbug and Estate Catherine Rest.
Motorists are asked to follow traffic directions for the safety of crews, pedestrians and other drivers.
The network (viNGN) is in the process of connecting community anchor institutions with reliable high-speed Internet services and strengthening external broadband connections that will improve access to online educational, healthcare and government services to residents.
The network (viNGN) is a wholly owned public corporation that was organized to create the broadband middle-mile fiber optic network, and it was funded primarily from a grant by the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) as part of a federal program to improve the broadband capacity in the territories.
